Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Family Coaching?
Family Coaching is like having Physical Trainer for your family. Unlike Family Therapy (which is more like going to a physical therapist), Family Coaching offers concrete steps and actions towards improving your family’s dynamic and life together. It’s about identifying what your family village looks like and how it will best operate as a unit with all of the intricacies that each individual and circumstance adds. It’s creating shared meaning and developing skills to help you thrive together.
What does Family Coaching Look Like?
I work with my family clients in a variety of ways (phone, zoom, in-person and through workshops and retreats. My first task is to get to know each of you individually and then as a group. Family coaching is a journey unlike any other coaching experience. I look with a wide lens, the way I look at a play as a director, first I look closely at each family member and what/how they are contributing to the bigger picture and then we zoom out and help the family reimagine the home and family structure so that it serves everyone’s needs. The most successful element of family coaching, is the family daily RITUAL workshop. This family bonding event allows every voice to be heard and gives the family time to develop a unique ritual and routine for togetherness, care and safety that the whole family can look forward to DAILY.
Implementing the family plans is probably the hardest part. Depending on what the family needs, I work with some clients on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly coaching process to celebrate what is working and to modify and adjust whatever is not working. Family coaching after implementation includes Gottman- style listening and reflection, coupled with course correction using a family model of group consensus.
RITUALS CHANGE. As children grow, as routines alter, our rituals may need revisions…My own family revises our rituals every year to make sure they are working for ALL of us. I am happy to guide your family wherever you are in the process.
Is it Worth the Investment?
Coaching is an investment in your family. It is a downpayment on the idea that you are both ready and capable of coming into relationship and building what is necessary to live a life of integrity and alignment, making progress towards your family dreams.
Having an outside advocate is priceless. When you are in the thick of transformation, having someone standing on the edge and holding a mirror to your growth is something we all require. Hiring a coach was one of the most powerful investments I have ever made in my life.
Ask yourself:
What would I be willing to pay to get the outcome I am seeking?
If you are feeling stuck and unable to afford the investment of coaching, connect with me and ask about my sliding scale options for families who are: low income, lgbtq, disabled and/or otherwise marginalized.
